What to Do in a Dental Emergency

 

 

If you or a loved one experiences a dental emergency, follow these steps:

 

  1. Stay Calm: Panicking can make the situation worse. Take deep breaths and try to remain calm.
  2. Contact Us Immediately: Call our office right away. We will prioritize your situation and provide instructions on what to do until you can get to our office.
  3. Preserve Any Broken Pieces: If a tooth or dental restoration has broken, try to save any pieces and bring them with you to your appointment.
  4. Manage Pain and Swelling: Apply a cold compress to the affected area to reduce swelling and take over-the-counter pain relief as needed.
  5. If your tooth has been knocked out and the full root has also come out, hold it by the crown (not the root), and try to re-insert it into the tooth socket gently biting down once you’ve put it into place. The tooth and root needs to be kept moist, you can also put it in a glass of milk or hold it in your cheek, until you get to our office.
